The Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities (NSFM) is pleased to once again offer the Ken Simpson Memorial Conference Fund, supporting elected officials in attending NSFM's Annual Fall Conference.
This fund honours the legacy of Ken Simpson, who served as Executive Director of the former UNSM from 1990 to 2009. Ken was a dedicated leader who championed collaboration, professional development, and continuous learning in municipal government. Through this fund, NSFM continues to support municipal leaders in accessing valuable learning and networking opportunities.
Each year, two elected officials receive:
- Complimentary registration for the NSFM Annual Conference, and
- A $500 travel allowance.
The fund is open to current municipal elected officials who demonstrate:
- A commitment to professional development and municipal leadership;
- Financial need or other barriers to conference participation; and
- A clear vision of how conference participation will benefit their municipality and community.
Applications must include:
- A statement (maximum 500 words) outlining your interest in attending the conference, how participation will benefit you and your municipality, any financial barriers to attendance, and why you should be considered for the fund.
- A copy of your municipality's conference or training funding policy, or a summary of the policy if available.
- Optional supporting letters (maximum of three) from municipal colleagues or staff highlighting the applicant's commitment to municipal leadership and professional development.
