Tourism Short Term Rentals

The Now or Never Report identified tourism as a growth opportunity for the province.  The shortage of quality accommodations throughout the province has been identified and digital platforms such as Airbnb are helping to fill the gap.  Policy questions relating to digital platforms, the Tourism Accommodation Act and traditional approaches have been raised.

In January, 2018, the Province established a committee to assist in the development of policy.  The NSFM has two representatives on the committee – Mayor Bill MacDonald, Town of Annapolis Royal, and Councillor Perla Macleod, County of Victoria – along with representatives from Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia, the bed and breakfast sector, Airbnb, the hotels sector, etc.  The deliberations of the committee are confidential.  It is expected the province will release a report.
